COVID & ED? What’s the Connection?

Covid virus

You don’t need to be a lab coat wearing ‘expert’ to know that there might be a link between Erectile Dysfunction and COVID.

A few questions to ponder:

Does COVID, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, cause ED?

Can your Erectile Dysfunction be an indicator that you are more susceptible to COVID?

What about the vaccines? Will they help or hinder your erectile function?

The ‘science’ has been dribbling out … (here, here, here) – pardon the pun.

And it WOULD make sense that if a virus were to negatively impact your cardiovascular system – then it could also effect your ability to achieve natural, normal erections.

What we DO KNOW is that Erectile Dysfunction is a harbinger of cardiovascular illness (here, here, here).

Since the arteries that flow to the penis are some of the smallest in the body, they can be among the first effected by an underlying, even undiagnosed, vascular condition.

ED is a well-established early warning sign that something isn’t right – and you should take it seriously.

While it may be an uncomfortable topic to discuss, you should address it.

If you want to improve your erectile function, it will also require you to make difficult lifestyle changes: your diet, exercise, sleep and overall conditioning.

Sure you can take a little blue pill from here until the cows come home – but this is simply treating the symptom and NOT the cause.

ED will not disappear on its own.

But thankfully, ED can be safely and effectively treated using FOCUSED SHOCKWAVE THERAPY.

At FocusWave Clinic in Ottawa & Kitchener – Waterloo, we combine our revolutionary, powerful, PAINLESS, natural focused shockwave therapy treatment, with improvements to your overall vascular health, including diet, exercise, sleep and more.

Graph of erectile dysfunction

What is the prevalence of Erectile Dysfunction (ED)?

According to this study – there’s a wide range.

At Ottawa’s FocusWave Clinic, the average patient age is about 56 years old – but we have treated men aged 19 to 91.
The rule of thumb is that 40% of men over 40 have experienced ED, 50% of men over 50, 60% of men over 60, and so on.

Bottom line – if you get to 100 years old – its basically assured that you are going to need some help!

Why not start treating THE CAUSE and not just the symptom?

Non-invasive & PAINLESS, Focused Shockwave Therapy is a side-effect free technology that can help men to achieve natural, longer lasting and fuller erections.

The treatment is also approved for treating Peyronie’s Disease (PD) and Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS).

Laughter, Erectile Dysfunction (ED), Norm MacDonald

portrait of man
portrait of a man

Norm MacDonald, who gained fame on Saturday Night Live, and was an internationally recognized comedian, died this week at age 61.

Norm attended high school in Ottawa and started doing his devastatingly deadpan, rambling stand-up comedy at the local Yuk Yuks.

What does the passing of this local comedy behemoth have to do with Erectile Dysfunction?

First of all: LAUGHTER can help to improve your vascular function!

When you laugh, your heart rate increases, deep breathing is stimulated, and more oxygenated blood circulates through your body. It’s an incredibly healthy physical reaction that requires very little effort!

Laughing isn’t only good for your vascular health, but also for your mental health, too! Remember that sex starts in the mind – so improve your confidence and your chances in the bedroom by getting out there and getting laughing!

Go to a comedy club with your partner or watch a great stand up special or hilarious movie together at home. Play a fun board game like Pictionary – you can laugh yourself stupid with a glass or two of wine.

Back to our protagonist…..

Like most men, Norm was very private about his health.

He quietly suffered from leukemia for almost a decade. Ironically, while he never publicly acknowledged his cancer, he was quite open about discussing his own battles with erectile dysfunction (NSFW Video, not for the easily offended!).

Norm was unapologetic about providing some comic relief when discussing this difficult disease (NSFW video, not for the easily offended!).

Bottom line is that if you are considering shockwave therapy for Erectile Dysfunction (ED), Peyronie’s Disease (PD), or Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS) – the treatment has never been as painless, side-effect free, and non-invasive as it is today.

INSIST on FOCUSED Shockwave Therapy, and never Radial/Acoustic/Pulse Wave therapy, so you can get the highest quality treatment available.

Don’t be ashamed or embarrassed about your condition – almost 50% of men over the age of 40 have suffered from bouts of sexual dysfunction.

It’s not going to get better on its own – you have to do something about it.

And don’t forget to laugh!
____

Laughter is the best medicine.

Unless of course you are a diabetic.

And Then – Insulin!”

– Norm MacDonald (1959-2021)

RIP Norm.

Chronic Pain, Tennis, New Shoes, Shockwave Therapy

man playing tennis
Man playing tennis
Chronic Pain

So I joined a local tennis club last week.

I used to play competitive tennis when I was younger.

It was ‘MY sport’.

I had a dominant serve, a wicked backhand, a nasty spin, and a mean temper.

When I was 15 years old playing in an intercamp tournament, after losing a game, I bit my tennis racket and broke my braces.

Idiot!

But that was 28 years and 100 pounds ago.

Most of you who know me know I’m a big guy – 6’2”, 260lbs – thick like a can of Pepsi, but soft around the belly and big boned to boot (to quote comedian Dom Irrerra – “you got a lotta big bones comin’ outta yer ass!”).

I’m always battling the weight, but I’m also pretty active and coordinated (cat like speed and reflexes).

So I joined the ladder at the tennis club, hoping to get back into it.

I played my first match on Monday afternoon wearing a new pair (and new brand) of tennis shoes – thinking that would be a good idea.

It was not.

Halfway through the match, my body felt like a mangled pile of steel.

My foot, my knee, my lower back, my shoulder, my elbow.

After the match, and as I type this, I feel like I’ve been pulled out of a multi-car pileup on the Queensway.

I have not stopped whining for the last 24 hours, and my wife has just about had it with my not-so silent suffering.

Point is – despite my somewhat active life (10km walking per day, 700 push-ups per week), I’m certainly NOT in as good a shape as I thought I was!

All those new tennis muscles are reactivating (and throbbing).

And I realized that I have to stick with New Balance because they are the only shoes, it seems, that don’t wreak havoc on my entire body.

Can’t blame the shoes on my elbow – but I blame Asics for the rest.

As I whimpered in the car on the ride home from the club, all I could think was “Good thing I have access to the best chronic pain machine on planet Earth!”

The Swiss built Storz SD1 uses electromagnetic FOCUSED Shockwave Therapy to treat very specific orthopaedic chronic pains (plantar fasciitis, calcific shoulder tendinopathies, golfers’ and tennis elbow, jumpers’ knee, back pain, etc).

FocusWave Clinic is currently offering a 15% discount for all chronic pain patients throughout the month of August.

If you would like a free consultation, call the clinic at 613-422-9283.

PS – I won the set (6-3).

Considering Shockwave Therapy for ED? Ask These 3 Questions.

couple sleeping in bed
couple sleeping in bed

If you are considering Shockwave Therapy for treating your Erectile Dysfunction or sexual health condition, and are looking at available options, make sure you ask your clinic the following questions:

1) Will this treatment help me to perform like I did when I was 20 years old?

(ANSWER: NO! Run away from liars who make false and exaggerated promises.)

2) What type of Shockwave equipment are you using for this treatment? Is it an approved device for treating my Sexual Health Disease?

(ANSWER: Ottawa’s FocusWave Clinic uses Focused Shockwave Therapy, an approved treatment for Erectile Dysfunction, Peyronie’s Disease, and Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome. Radial / Acoustic / Pulse waves aren’t approved for treating sexual health conditions – they can’t reach the depth required to treat your condition, and for most people, they hurt.)

3) Does the treatment hurt, will I need numbing creams, and will there be any downtime?

(ANSWER: Focused Shockwaves might feel weird – but they are generally painless. No numbing creams are required. You can resume sex immediately after leaving the clinic. No bruising or side effects have been noted.)

Don’t be fooled by the lure of unlimited treatments with an inferior technology. Call FocusWave Clinic, Ottawa’s only locally owned Focused Shockwave Therapy Clinic, to find out more.

Boner Pills?

Boner pills
Boner Pills

We all know guys who have tried Boner Pills ‘just for fun’.

More than 90% of our patients at FocusWave Clinic have used these Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i – Viagra, Cialis, Levitra) to improve erectile function.

But these aren’t recreational drugs – they are short term performance enhancing pharmacological agents that may or may not improve your sexual congress.

And despite the reports of awesome banging that result from their ingestion, PDE5i may come with tremendous side effects.

Patients confirm detailed reports of nausea, headache, runny nose, back pain, tinnitus, dizziness, and many others.

Couple in Bed

For the majority of men, however, the pills DO work.

Maybe not as often as you think – 30-35% of patients fail to respond to them.

PDE5i non-responders almost always have co-morbidities, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, among others (1).

These drugs are potent vasodilators, relaxing the smooth muscles in the penis, improving blood flow, and facilitating erection during sexual stimulation.

Interestingly, they have recently been shown to have the potential to improve cardiovascular health in certain circumstances (2).

But, as with many medications, our patients often report diminishing returns, as the pills’ positive effect tends to weaken over time.

This may be related to tolerance and efficacy as well as correlated with a decline in patients’ overall health (3).

The bottom line is that boner pills are more of a treatment of the symptom rather than an attempt at a curative effect.

T-shirt with message

This is why Focused Shockwave Therapy has such tremendous potential for those suffering from sexual health conditions like Erectile Dysfunction (ED), Peyronie’s Disease (PD) and Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS).

Shockwave Therapy attacks the cause of the problem – not the symptom.

It works to improve blood flow to the penis by promoting the neovascularization process – the creation of new blood vessels from the existing vasculature.

Shockwave Therapy Treatments are quick, painless, side effect free, and totally non-invasive.

There’s no numbing creams, no surgery, and no downtime.

You can leave the clinic after your treatment and go have sex with your partner.

The ultimate goal of our patients is the return of spontaneous, strong erections, without the obligatory ‘tiny blue pill’.

Focused Shockwave Therapy offers patients the best chance to achieve natural erections, without the need for surgery, injections or pharmacological medicine.

The Big Five of Sexual Health

pillars
pillars
The Big 5 of Sexual Health

The Big 5 of Sexual Health

One of the most common questions by our patients is:

What can I do during the treatment course to improve my outcome?

At FocusWave Clinic, we view Sexual Health as being comprised of five major components:

Diet, Exercise, Sleep, Stimulation & Sex.

These often are interdependent.

If you notice one of them starting to erode, you may be at risk of losing them all.

Let’s go through them one by one:

Diet

Feed your body shit – you will feel like shit AND you will look like shit.

Sorry – but there’s no way around this.

When our patients start FocusWave treatments they tend to make a simultaneous goal to ALSO lose that extra weight.

They make it a mission to improve their eating habits, reduce junk food consumption, and incorporate more of the foods that ACTUALLY make them feel good.

They do their best to stop drinking to excess.

They try to ditch the cigarettes and ease up on the boozing and doping.

We can’t change your lifestyle – it’s up to you.

But it’s clear that those who improve what they input into their bodies get MUCH better results.

Read about Intermittent fasting, anti-candida cleanses, consider a visit to a Naturopath or Nutritionist (we can refer you!) – WHATEVER works FOR YOU – to get you on the right track.

Many sexual health conditions, like ED, are vascular diseases – and they can be a harbinger of illness.

Use this warning sign to your advantage by making the necessary changes to your diet and improve your overall cardiovascular health.

Recently we put out a list of sexual health friendly foods – let us know if you need some great recipes!

Exercise

Extra calories and less activity can mean a higher risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

All of these conditions, and several others, are very common among sufferers of sexual health diseases.

With the gyms closed, you have to be creative.

Most of us love some form of physical activity – but stupid COVID has made it easy to sit on the couch all evening.

We have so many trappings of comfort – Uber Eats, Netflix, and a plethora of excuses.

But to quote David Goggins:

“Get your fucking running shoes on, pussy!”

Take 10,000 steps per day (that’s 80-90 minutes of walking).

Get outdoors!

Play with your kids or grandkids.

Do 100 pushups every day.

Can’t do 100?

Start with 1.

Practice Yoga (free videos on Youtube).

Have lots of sex! (More on that below).

Do whatever it takes to wear some sweat – everyday.

A body in motion will generally stay in motion – and the opposite is true, as well.

Sleep.

Some of us have brains that seem to operate 24/7.

We get that.

But shutting ‘er down, however you can, is so critical.

Critical for our appetite, our blood pressure, our immune system, etc.

Poor sleep habits have a huge range of deleterious cardiovascular effects.

They can also lead to higher stress levels, less motivation to be physically active, and unhealthy food choices.

And so It goes without saying that 7-8 hours of solid sacktime – EVERYDAY – is the absolute minimum mandatory to rejuvenate your mind & body!

Turn off your screens, keep the blinds closed tight, wake with the sun, make sure your mattress is as good as you can afford.

Stimulation

And by that, we mean intellectual stimulation.

Read a book, learn something new, challenge yourself.

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut – men we are a stubborn breed – but make a commitment to yourself to DO SOMETHING for your brain.

Your brain needs – no, it CRAVES your support – and you may be ignoring it.

You can only play Candy Crush or read the same garbage media for so long before your mind turns to goo.

Sex

That’s why you came here.

It all comes back to your sexual health.

Make sure that you are doing everything you can in the diet/exercise/sleep/stimulation pillars to get you in the mood.

Make a move, initiate contact, get intimate with your partner.

You can do it by yourself – but it’s never as fun.

Why Focuswave Clinic?

Focused Shockwave Therapy is an amazing medical technology – approved as both safe and effective for treating Erectile Dysfunction, Peyronie’s Disease & Chronic Pelvic Pain. If you are considering the treatment, make sure your clinic is using FOCUSED or LINEAR Shockwaves, NOT Radial or Acoustic or Pulse waves. Focused Shockwaves (what we use here at FocusWave Clinic) are electromagnetic, painless, and produce true shockwaves. The latter are inexpensive, generally painful, and mostly ineffective at treating many sexual health conditions because they don’t produce true shockwaves.

ALL THAT MATTERS TO US IS THAT YOU IMPROVE!

To your best health,

The FocusWave Team
